New Services, Changes & Updates This Month
Over the past month several new changes and updates have been made to Homes With Character's website and products.  Below is a list of many of the different updates, changes and new services that have been added in the past month.  To see more of these updates and changes visit here.

New Services
We now offer a new service called Customer Reviews for our customers to leave reviews of the products they buy.  Any product or service is eligible for customer review through this new service.  Another new service that was just added this month is the Homes With Character Advertisements Newsletter.  This newsletter is a great new way to keep up to date on changes to the site and new products or offers.  To sign up for this service visit our site here.  Another new way to keep up with some of the changes going on at Homes With Character is WebSlices, a new service offered for Internet Explorer 8.  Once Internet Explorer 8 becomes widely available this service will allow you to subscribe to certain sections on our website to get up to the second details on updates or changes right in your browser.  This service is similar to RSS feeds which many of you might be familiar with, but is far more simple, quick and easy to view.  A new monthly ad is also available again in the ads and brochures section of our site.

New Changes
Kid's Center, formerly known as More Power is now the place to go to get your kids interested in home improvement or just for adults to have some fun with home improvement.  There are games, jokes, projects and more in the Kid's Center for adults and kid's alike to enjoy.  And if you need any more invitation just ask the crazy contractor.  To check out the new changes go here.

Updates
Two new updates have been made to make our plans even better.  The first is an update to the Custom Plans section.  Now custom sizing and minor alterations are included for furniture plans allowing you, the customer, to customize each plan to fit your individual needs for a small price.  Also added are mirror (reverse) plans to flip a house plan over and custom room alterations allowing size changes and other small alterations to be made for a nominal price on all green home plans.  To see a more detailed review of these new changes to Custom Plans visit our site here.  The second update is a new reformed single user license.  The new license has to be downloaded at the end of the checkout process, filled out and emailed back to Homes With Character.  The license is in PDF format and may not be altered.  A copy of the signed license and a blank license will be shipped with the plans cd.  Without signing the license and returning it your plan order will be canceled and refunded to you.  Any products other than plans purchased with the same order will be shipped regardless of the license signing.  Each person using the plans as specified in the license must also sign and return a copy of the signed license to Homes With Character.  A generic version of the new license (not to be used as an official Homes With Character Single User License Agreement) is available for viewing here.

Did you know that by adjusting your thermostat by just a few degrees for 8 hours a day can save you as much as 10% on your next heating or cooling bill? Well it can, however it can be a tremendous headache to have to get up and down and go over to the thermostat to manual adjust it everyday, and what if you forget? That’s where a programmable thermostat can save you a lot of time, money and frustration. During the day you might want it warmer while at night you want it cooler. With a programmable thermostat you can preset your thermostat to adjust itself up and down at certain times of the day (As much as six or more times a day on some units). On some you can even just copy the settings to every day of the week so you don’t have to program in separate times for each day. There are even some units which have become so “smart” that they can adjust your temperature for you without any input from you. These units are very expensive and are not Do It Yourselfer friendly, but if you want the ultimate in comfort, luxury and energy efficiency, one of these units may just be for you. They range in price anywhere from $500.00 to upwards of $1000.00 a piece, not including installation, and they typically have to be installed by a licensed HVAC contractor due to the amount of wiring that needs to be done as well as connecting it to a phoneline. These thermostats have the ability to call up the local utility companies and check not only the current temperatures and household energy consumption, but also the current rate for electricity or gas. These prices often fluctuate from day to day and even several times during the day due to mass energy consumption and the current demand for fuel in your location. During the day your electricity or gas may cost you more due to the enormous amount of energy being used to do things such as washing clothes or even watching TV, in fact your furnace or airconditioner could be using more energy than you may want it to due to the high cost of fuel. The “smart” programmable thermostat can adjust not only the temperature in your house to feel more comfortable, but also the amount of electricity or gas you are using so you are not losing so much money. And for those of you who like to be able to still control the temperature yourself manually, you can override any setting at anytime with out interfering with any preset schedule you may have already made on any programmable thermostat. For those of you that want the comfort and energy efficiency without the high price tag you might want to check out one of the regular programmable thermostats that you can pick up at any home improvement center or big box store. A standard 8 day programmable thermostat usually starts around $25 dollars and will give you a lot of comfort and a lot of savings without the big budget and they can be installed by the average Do It Yourselfer.
