Tip 1: Pack as many of your items as you can in plastic totes. They’re easier to carry, last longer, they protect your items from water damage and they stack easily together.
Tip 2: Label your boxes or totes not only with the contents, but the room they go to and whether they are fragile or not. Remember to keep the labels simple and short, but easy to read, understand and indentify the contents.
Tip 3: Pack your non-essential items (items you won’t need until after the move) first.
Tip 4: Wrap breakable items in towels, sheets, comforters, tablecloths and newspapers.
Tip 5: Pack your breakable items on top of your non-breakable items or by themselves where they will not get broken.
Tip 6: Try to keep all of your packed items in one central location like your garage to make them easier to carry out and load on the truck later.
Tip 7: Wait until most of your items have been packed before choosing the truck or mover. This will give you a better idea of the size of truck you’ll need.
Tip 8: Remember to get dollies and help to load your heavy or bulky items on your truck.
Tip 9: Pack all of your boxes and totes on the truck first, then you heavy or bulky items. This will help protect your smaller items and make your heavy or bulky items easier to load and unload.
Tip 10: When unloading place your essential items in the locations where you need them so it will be easier and quicker to get them set up when you start unpacking.
